Five Tips To Help You Determine If Your Roof Is Damaged From Hail

Hail roof damage occurs more often than you might think and it can be expensive to repair. Luckily, it's something that is typically covered on your homeowners insurance. However, it can be challenging to determine whether or not you actually need it. Here are five tips to help you determine whether or not this is the case:

  1. Get Your Roof Professionally Inspected: After a hail storm, you need to have your roof professional inspected. The reason being that hail roof damage is usually not easy to spot, especially on your own when you don't have experience recognizing the signs of damage. The best person to inspect the roof would be an insurance adjuster because they have specialized training to search for hail damage specifically.
  2. Get Your Roof Inspected Even if it's Been a While: If you had a hail storm, but didn't think anything of it, but now believe there might be damage, get your roof inspected. When it comes to hail damage, insurance companies will usually pay a claim out for it past the one year deadline, so it's most likely not too late.
  3. Don't Rely on Your Warranty: One of the reasons you need to call your insurance adjuster even when you have a new roof is because warranties on the roof typically exclude hail damage. Also, keep in mind that a newer roof is more susceptible to roof damage from hail because it's more cured yet. This means you should get it inspected right after the hail storm has occurred.
  4. Don't Take No for an Answer: If the insurance adjuster stated that you do have some damage, but it's not worth filing a claim over, you need a second opinion from a qualified roofer. You don't want to end up having excessive damage after all that could lead to serious issues in the future. If the roofer decides you should file a claim, then it's worth considering. With this second opinion. you can fight the insurance company if they decide to deny your claim.
  5. Your Rates Will Rise Anyway: If hail damage has occurred throughout your area, rates on all insurance policies are going to rise no matter what, so it's not worth it to think that if you don't file a claim, you will save money. This isn't the case and will actually cost you money out of your own pocket in the future anyway because of the chance that the hail damage will get worse and worse.

With these five tips in mind, you can be sure that you understand the importance of determining if your roof is damaged from hail and what to do about it. Contact a roof company, like Bob Behrends Roofing & Gutters LLC, for more help.

Understanding Roof Damage and The Need For Repairs

I was concerned that a recent hailstorm might have caused damage to my roof. While inspecting my roof, the roofing contractor noted cracked shingles and granule loss from the impact of the hailstones. I didn't want my roof to start leaking, so I immediately had the damaged shingles replaced. Hi, my name is Troy Blakely and in this blog, you'll find out about the various types of shingle damage. You'll also learn how to determine if you need to have your roof repaired or replaced. I didn't know this information until the roofing contractor explained it to me. Then I decided that I would help other people by spreading the word. A damaged or leaky roof can cause expensive damage to the inside of your home and that's why it's so important to address roof issues as quickly as possible.
